Mets fall short 4-3 loss to D-Back in yesterday game 4/30/25

Heartbreak at Citi Field:After Crushing 4-3 Loss to D-backs Let me start by saying: Oof. Last night’s game was the kind of gut-punch that leaves you staring at the ceiling at 2 a.m., replaying every missed opportunity in your head. The Mets, on the cusp of making history as the first NL team to hit 20 wins in April, collapsed in agonizing fashion against the Diamondbacks. Final score: 4-3. The vibes? Catastrophic. Let’s break down this pain, inning by inning.

Clutch Hitting Was an Oxymoron If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to watch a team leave a small village on the bases, last night was your masterclass. The Mets went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position. Let that sink in. Zero. Bases loaded in the ninth, down 4-2, after Tyrone Taylor’s leadoff homer (shoutout to him for fighting)… and what happens? Mark Vientos, who earlier launched a moonshot, struck out. Juan Soto, our $400 million man, went 0-for-4 and looked lost. Then Francisco Alvarez, the supposed “future,” grounded into a game-ending double play. I swear, when that ball hit the dirt, half of Queens screamed into their pillows.

Ryne Stanek: From Fireman to Arsonist Look, I get that relievers have bad days. But Ryne Stanek? He’s turned blown saves into an art form. Entering the seventh with a 1-0 lead, he proceeded to melt down like a popsicle in July. Three straight hits, including Geraldo Perdomo’s bloop single that barely eluded Jeff McNeil’s dive. Of course it did. Because when it rains, it pours. This was Stanek’s THIRD STRAIGHT BLOWN SAVE, and fans are done with the “bad luck” excuses. Opponents are hitting .545 against him in his last three outings. .545! At this point, I’d rather see myself pitch the seventh.

Brandon Waddell Deserved Better The lone bright spot? Brandon Freakin’ Waddell. The guy hadn’t pitched in the bigs since 2021, and he tossed 4.1 scoreless innings like he was playing MLB The Show on rookie mode. Combined with opener Huascar Brazobán’s two shutout frames, the bullpen game worked… until Stanek turned it into a dumpster fire. Waddell’s performance was the kind of underdog story Mets fans live for—only to have it ripped away. Justice for Brandon!

Then to watch as the game unfold as the opposite team Corbin Burnes walked five batters and balked, yet somehow held the Mets to one run. HOW? We loaded the bases in the first inning and came up empty. Burnes wiggled out of every jam like Houdini, while our hitters swung at sliders in the dirt like they owed him money. It was maddening.

Jeff McNeil’s dive for that bloop single? A metaphor for the entire night. So close, yet so far. And don’t get me started on Arizona’s small-ball nonsense sac flies, infield dribblers, the works. It’s like they won with a Walmart receipt of hits while we swung for the fences and struck out.

Yes, the Mets are still 21-10—their best April ever. Tyrone Taylor’s bat woke up (3-for-4, homer), and Waddell’s arm is a revelation. But let’s be real: If this team can’t hit with runners on or fix the bullpen, October will be a pipe dream.

Final Thoughts

This loss stings because it mattered. History was on the line, and the Mets tripped over their own feet. But hey, that’s Mets baseball—equal parts magic and misery. Let’s pray they bounce back against Zac Gallen tonight. Otherwise, the Doomers on Tiktok might actually riot on me again when I go live or read my article and still think Gary Keith and Ron are the best. He'll i sure don't. Let's here you Thoughts in the comments.

Let’s go Mets.
