The Mets crushed the Rockies 13-5 at Coors Field, sweeping them 6-0 for the season and winning their fifth straight game. That puts them at 42-24, 18 games over .500, and 4.5 games ahead of the Phillies, who got swept by Pittsburgh.
Pete Alonso respectfully hit two home runs in the third and eighth innings, surpassing David Wright's 242 home runs to claim second place on the Mets' all-time home run list with 243. He also contributed 4 RBIs, increasing his MLB-leading season total to 61 RBIs. Jeff McNeil impressively smashed two home runs, a solo shot in the second inning and a three-run homer in the fourth, finishing with 4 RBIs and matching his career-high with three extra-base hits. Juan Soto achieved a career first by reaching base six times, going 3-for-3 with three walks, and scoring three runs. Francisco Alvarez and Brett Baty provided strong support, with Alvarez contributing 3 hits, a home run, and 2 RBIs, and Baty hitting a two-run home run. This combined effort resulted in the Mets' impressive six-homer barrage—their first since 2021— totaling 17 hits, with Soto, Alonso, and McNeil (the 4-5-6 hitters) combining for 9 hits and 8 RBIs.
Top Guys who really put it away, McNeil's solo homer in the second and Alvarez's RBI single put the Mets up 2-0. Then Alonso's first homer in the third and McNeil's three-run shot in the fourth made it 8-0. Colorado got two runs in the fifth off Megill, but Baty and Alonso/Alvarez homered in the seventh and eighth/ninth for the Mets. Megill got the win, but he struggled through five innings (2 ER, 5 Ks). Blackburn got his first career save with four innings of relief, giving up three runs. Alonso's closing in on Strawberry's Mets HR record. And the Mets were 5-for-13 with runners in scoring position—a big improvement! Next up, they're home against the Nationals on June 10th, with Canning starting.
